Google’s performance tool can be used to provide users the most relevant search results when using Google Search, by making websites loading time faster to improve the overall quality and web speed. Site Performance is an experimental performance tool that shows latency information about your site.
The performance tool helps by showing.
- Average page load times
- The trend over the last few months
- Suggestions on how to make the pages load faster
Page load time is collected from users who have the Google Toolbar with the PageRank feature enabled. Therefore, if there is no data available for your site you may not have enough users with Google Toolbar and the PageRank feature turned on.
Page Speed also offers what they call Web Performance Best Practices, which are grouped into five categories.
- Optimizing caching
- Minimizing round-trip times
- Minimizing request size
- Minimizing payload size
- Optimizing browser rendering
